Ding Dong Merrily on High! Welcome to day 3 of 'An Optimistic Advent Calendar'. From now until the 24th, I'll be bringing you a daily dose of Christmas cheer by sharing all sorts of festive makes and bakes, things to see and do and of course, lots of pretty pictures - all served up with an extra handful of seasonal sparkle. So pop back tomorrow for another look.
Might I suggest an addition to your "totally awesome festive tewns!!!!" playlist?
Every December, for the past eight years, The Killers have released a new Christmas single, with proceeds from the sale of each track going to Product Red, a campaign dedicated to the fight against HIV and Aids. In 2011 they released The (Red) Christmas EP, a compilation of all six songs up to that year and you can download it, along with the two newest tracks, from iTunes.
Don't expect sleigh bells and children's choirs, these are not your average Christmas songs; these are Killers songs, with just enough references to Cinnamon candles and It's a Wonderful Life to suggest that Brandon Flowers might've swapped his leather jacket for a festive knit as he wrote them. They're quirky and a little bit dark, with names like Don't Shoot Me Santa and often, a strangely fitting Mexican influence. They haven't scrimped on the videos either, this year's Christmas in LA stars Owen Wilson as a disillusioned actor spending the holidays on his own. Not too shabby.
So as today's treat, wrap your ears and eyes around my pick of the bunch, Boots.
