Today I am mostly listening to ...

Mark Beaumont of NME gave this album a 0/10 review. Not because it's bad you understand, but because it's destined to earn the talented musician a few more Brit Awards. The write-up actually contained the line "I wish I could say there's a place in Hell reserved for Tom Odell" - You'll be glad to know that The Optimist, like any other civilised human being, doesn't stand for that kind of misplaced bitterness.

Regular readers will know that this blog only ever contains reviews of films, music, TV programmes and books that I would recommend, because although it's impossible to entirely avoid disappointments, I would rather not share them. Think of The Optimist as an umbrella, here to shield you from those little grey clouds of negativity.

With that in mind, I don't intend to write much about this album. I will say that it can in turn make you feel like you've been punched in the gut or wrapped in a warm coat and would not hesitate to call Another Love, song of the year. Other than that, it is up to you to decide what you think of it.

I'll just leave this here ...
