I love Richard Curtis

He's the man that brought us Renée as Bridget Jones, tore our hearts in two when he reimagined the life of Vincent Van Gogh for Doctor Who, introduced us to The Vicar of Dibley and even had a hand in the script for War Horse. Oh, and he's the writer of Love Actually which also makes him responsible for the painfully cute scene between Keira Knightley and Andrew Lincoln which spawned a million flip board marriage proposals, plus ... he made Colin Firth speak Portugese.

Basically, Richard Curtis is alright in my book, and The Optimist is pleased to confirm that his newest offering, About Time is choc-full of extra reasons to love him. Sweet but never sickly, funny and heartbreaking in equal measure, it's classic Curtis with a refreshing dose of something a little different, namely - time travel. And if you think sci-fi and romance don't mix, prepare to be proven wrong. As Tim Lake finds out, the possibilities are endless, but the ramifications are huge - so huge it seems, that they warrant a mid-film reference to Baz Luhrmann's 1999 single; Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) - and you know how much I love Baz Luhrmann.

To coincide with the release of About Time, Ellie Goulding has recorded a scrumptious cover of How Long Will I Love You for the film's soundtrack and the video features an adorable mash-up of clips from some of RC's greatest romances.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Richard Curtis also co-founded Comic Relief in 1985, which this year alone, raised over £100,000,000. Yep, definitely love him.

UPDATE 16.09.13: I received a super lovely tweet about the blog this morning from Richard's partner and About Time's script editor Emma Freud
