La La Land
I am being brave. It's deepest, darkest January and the rain here in Manchester can only be described as thick drizzle ... but I'm going out in it. What could warrant such bravery? Escapism, dear reader. A chance to spend two hours bathed in sunlight and swept up in romance. Finally, La La Land is in cinemas and it's here to banish the January blues.

The Best TV of 2016

And with the bonging of Big Ben, 2016 is over - a year that has tested even the most optimistic of optimists. Though it would probably do us all good to leave it in the past and never speak of it again, I'm going to linger a little longer and ask you to do the same, as I look back on those moments of light that led us through the darkness - the best TV of the year.

The Tale of Thomas Burberry
Deck the halls with checked scarves and trench coats! Burberry have launched their festive campaign with a sumptuous miniature film which charts the life of its founder, Thomas. Domnhall Gleeson plays the pioneering fashion designer who invented the water-repellent fabric used in the uniforms of the British army, by Antarctic Explorer Earnest Shackleton and in the now iconic Burberry Trench coat. The film also stars British treasures Sienna Miller, Dominic West and Lily James and showcases some stunning fashion - just check out Sienna's cape! That is going straight on my Christmas List.

Les Misérables

Well readers, I am beside myself with excitement ... the BBC have just announced that they will be adapting Les Misérables, my favourite musical and one of the greatest books ever written, into a six part drama. While there may not be any singing, the new adaptation is going to be written by Costume-Drama God Andrew Davies, and will be produced by the team that created the astonishing War & Peace. Could it involve any more of my favourite things? Well, potentially. The success of this could all hang on its cast, so who's going to get the call? My friends and I have been imagining our dream line-up ever since we heard the news.

Upcoming Costume Dramas 2016
This year's shaping up to be an absolute cracker for Costume Dramas. We've already had the masterpiece that was War & Peace and I'm currently enjoying Victorian Ghost story The Living and the Dead on BBC One, but there are loads more period dramas coming up in the next few months. I'm donning my bonnet in anticipation.
